July 30, 2000: [The Gazette] Doug Camilli had a Russell Crowe quote as the quote of the day. This is what he wrote: "Many of the women I know, some of them quite old enough to know better, get all red-faced and dreamy-eyed at any mention of this guy Russell Crowe, the New Zealand-born actor who starred in Gladiator and The Insider. I mean, Russell Crowe? Go figure. Well, I try to give people what they want. In that spirit, here's a comment this guy made, in Movieline magazine, about what he thinks of Tinseltown: "I'd move to Los Angeles if Australia and New Zealand were swallowed by a huge tidal wave, if there were a bubonic plague in England, and if the continent of Africa disappeared (because of) some Martian attack."

Quaid’s and Ryan’s spokespeople have insisted that no third party was responsible for their impending divorce, but Ryan and Crowe have been spotted around looking very cozy. But sources from the set of “Proof of Life” say that Crowe was hardly a one-woman man. “He was hitting on every woman on the set,” says one insider. “He worked his way through the entire cast, crew and assistants. He showed up on the set every day with a different woman. Meg was just the ultimate conquest.” There have also been reports that Crowe tried to date a researcher from the BBC. A spokesman for Crowe didn’t return calls.
